Do you 3D print the tools I order and then mail them to me?
3dprintedhardware.com only sells the STL files, these are files that contain code that will work on your 3d printer software know as a Slicer. After you purchase the STL files it will be available on your products page for download.
Do I need a 3d printer?You will need a 3d printer if you want to print the files we sell but you don't need a 3d printer if you are just buying our 3d printable tool set to lock in the current price and plan on getting a 3d printer in the futureThere are also companies that will 3d print your files for you for a fee. Companies like JLCPCB can even 3d print in metal.
What material do I need to 3d print tools from the tool set with?If metal 3d printers were readily available to the public, we would say metal is the preferred print material to 3d print our tool set with, however, it will probably be a few years before affordable consumer grade metal 3d printers are on the market. Until then, printing in PLA is perfectly fine and tools are functional and useful in small home projects, especially if your building something with new nuts and bolts. There are also new 3d printable plastics that are much stronger than PLA. We've been test printing our 3d printable tools with CF25, which is a 25% carbon fiber blend mixed with nylon. CF25 is very strong and very hard, much better for printing tools than the softer PLA.
